We investigate the role of intrinsic defects of the airway epithelial barrier in the pathogenesis of pulmonary diseases resulting from the interaction between susceptibility genes and environmental factors. Our aim is to find primary pathogenetic alterations that may become disease-specific targets for therapeutic intervention, so as to turn research discoveries into potential therapeutic advancements. |
